Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba (chapter 21 explanation)

Chapter 21:- Drum house

Tanjiro distraughtly realizes the man that fell out of the house is already dead, upset at the amount of pain he must've felt. Shoichi tells him their brother was wearing a persimmon-colored kimino and the man that had just perished was not him. Tanjiro internally apologizes to the deceased man, promising to give him a burial when he returns. He calls for Zenitsu to join him on the mission to defeat the Demon in the house, but after looking at Zenitsu's distressed face, angrily goes on alone. Scared by Tanjiro's furious expression, Zenitsu reluctantly tags along. Before they enter the house, Tanjiro entrusts Nezuko's box to the two children, telling them that what's in the box will protect them in case of danger.

Tanjiro and Zenitsu entering in drum house

As the two Demon Slayers enter the house, Zenitsu trembles and confides in Tanjiro to protect him. Tanjiro apologizes to Zenitsu, saying he has multiple broken bones and Zenitsu cries in shock, protesting that he was no longer safe without someone to protect him despite Tanjiro's attempts to comfort him. Shoichi and Teruko run inside the house, frightened by the noises coming out of Tanjiro's box and a troubled Tanjiro tells them they couldn't just leave it outside as it was more important than his life.

Tanjiro faces Kyogai (The master of the house)

Suddenly, the group hears a sound and accidentally split off, Zenitsu with Shoichi and Tanjiro with Teruko. The latter pair is stunned to see the room change, Tanjiro noticing how it shifted with a drum's beat. He apologizes to Teruko for separating from her brother and vows to protect her, wiping her tears. They hear footsteps and are shocked by the sudden presence of Kyogai in the hallway. Tanjiro immediately deciphers him to be the master of the house; his scent was the strongest and covered a broad range of the building.

Tanjiro attack on demon

Somewhere else, Zenitsu wails about his certain death while Shoichi simultaneously calls out for Teruko. Zenitsu pulls Shoichi and tells him they should go outside, but Shoichi turns around and reprimands him for his cowardice. Zenitsu is hurt by his words and argues that children should not be involved in this situation. They make their way down the hall and through doors, but fail to find the entrance. Opening a set of doors, Zenitsu comes face-to-face with an individual wearing a boar hide mask. Zenitsu calls him a monster, and the individual runs out of the room and rushes through a hallway.

Zenitsu meet Boar mask guy

Back at another room in the house, Tanjiro covers Teruko's mouth, informing her not to scream and to hide behind the shelves. Kyogai speaks, annoyed at the number of people barging into his home and calls them his prey. Tanjiro's inability to ambush makes him call out to Kyogai instead, introducing himself as a Demon Slayer and the one that will defeat him. Kyogai ignores him and mutters about a person with special blood as Tanjiro goes to attack. However, the Demon suddenly beats a drum and the entire room rotates, Tanjiro speculating the change to be a result of the Demon's Blood Demon Art. He senses a new smell and the boar-masked human crashes through the wall.

Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba (chapter 20 explanation)

Chapter 20:- Agatsuma Zenitsu

Chuntaro, Zenitsu Agatsuma's Kasugai Crow, flies over to Tanjiro Kamado and starts chirping to him desperately while motioning to Zenitsu, who is begging a girl to marry him. Tanjiro, understanding the sparrow's plea, tells him that he will try his best to be of aid. He moves to grab Zenitsu off the girl, reprimanding him for bothering both the girl and Chuntaro in the middle of the road. Zenitsu recognizes Tanjiro's uniform and states that they know each other from the Final Selection, which Tanjiro firmly denies, unable to accept that he's acquainted with someone like Zenitsu. Hurt, Zenitsu says that Tanjiro has memory issues and they really had met before.

Girl slaps Zenitsu

Tanjiro ignores him and tells the girl Zenitsu was assaulting that it was alright for her to return home, and she thanks him. Panicking, Zenitsu yells that she couldn't leave as she "liked" him and they had to be married. He is responded with a slap from her, and she starts beating him, prompting Tanjiro to hurry over and pull her off, asking her to calm down. She berates Zenitsu, stating that she never liked him and only talked to him because she thought he was wounded or sick when he lied on the side of the road. Shocked, Zenitsu replies that he thought she was helping him out of love and worry. The girl angrily mentions it was impossible as she has a fiancé, stomping away and telling Zenitsu he appeared fine now and hoped they would never met again.

Heartbroken, Zenitsu complains to Tanjiro about his interference, in which he receives a disgusted face as a reply. Zenitsu demands him to not use that face as it looked like he was looking at Zenitsu as some sort of creature, then blames him for preventing his "marriage." Again, Tanjiro only replies with the same face, much to Zenitsu's annoyance. He claims that he is about to die as he was weak, begging Tanjiro to protect him before he got married. Tanjiro doesn't respond and introduces himself, Zenitsu doing the same. Tanjiro starts chiding Zenitsu for his lack of shame, in which he replies that he was deceived by a woman and indebted, saved by his master but forced to train harshly every day, sorrowfully stating his dislike for his occupation. Tanjiro gives him his lunch and tells him he understands, but he should cause less trouble for his sparrow.

Tanjiro and Zenitsu both walk together

Both Demon Slayers arrive at their destination, a house on a mountain. Tanjiro smells blood and Zenitsu hears a sound, seeing two children huddled together at the edge of the forest. They try to approach them, but the children move away in fright. Noticing the fact that they were likely still in shock from something, Tanjiro entertains them with Chuntaro, calming them down. Shoichi, the older child, tells Tanjiro that their older brother Kiyoshi was kidnapped when they were walking in the night, and the kidnapper went into the house. Tanjiro praises him and his sister, Teruko, for following the monster, but Shoichi cries and said they followed his blood trail, upset that their older brother was hurt. Tanjiro soothes them and said he would defeat the monster and save their brother, much to their relief.

Tanjiro and Zenitsu arrive at the Drum House

Zenitsu suddenly retorts hearing a sound similar to a drum, expressing discomfort. Tanjiro replies that he couldn't hear a sound but is interrupted by a man flying out of the window, falling onto the ground. Tanjiro rushes over to check on him, alarmed at his deep wound. The man says he finally got out and asks if he was going to die, in which Tanjiro can only respond to with a hug. All of a sudden, a large sound comes out of the house.

Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba (chapter 19 explanation)

 Chapter 19:- Always together

Susamaru's body tears apart after falling victim to Muzan Kibutsuji's curse. The gory scene leaves everyone in a state of shock as her body is dismantled. Tanjiro Kamado asks Tamayo if Susamaru was dead and she responds that she was. Tamayo sadly describes how fighting between Demons is pointless as sunlight and beheading through Nichirin Blades are the only two ways to cause major damage; however, Muzan appears to also be capable of destroying Demons. Yushiro approaches Tanjiro and covers his face with a cloth, preventing him from breathing in Tamayo's Blood Demon Art which is harmful to humans.

Yushiro covers Tanjiro face

Tamayo looks at Susamaru's eyeballs and reports that she was not one of the Twelve Kizuki, much to Tanjiro's dismay. She states how a Demon Moon would have a number engraved on their eyeball, but Susamaru did not and Yahaba was too weak. She collects blood from Susamaru's corpse and apologizes to Tanjiro for letting Nezuko Kamado breathe in some of her technique, moving to examine her. Yushiro snaps at Tanjiro to cover his own face with the cloth as he returns back to Tamayo's side.

While he tries to pick himself up, Tanjiro hears a voice from Susamaru's remains asking for her temari. Slowly, he picks it up and places it next to her side, listening to her asking for someone to "play" with. He thinks about how despite the number of people she had killed, she still retained a childish personality. As the sun comes up and her corpse disintegrates, Tanjiro describes Muzan as the "real Demon" for manipulating and killing his followers.

Nezuko hug Tanjiro

Tanjiro moves back into the house, going to the basement where the three demons were sheltering. Nezuko runs over to give him a hug, then runs back to Tamayo to also hug her and pat Yushiro on the head, much to Yushiro's annoyance. Confused, Tamayo questions Tanjiro for Nezuko's actions and he replies that she likely thought of them as her family, treating them as the humans she must protect rather than Demons. He expresses relief that Nezuko still maintains her own will and Tamayo starts crying, shocking Tanjiro. He asks Nezuko to stop hugging her as it was rude and profusely apologizes to Tamayo, but she thanks them instead.

Nezuko hugs Tamayo, much to Yushiro's jealousy

Tamayo thinks back to the point where she saved Yushiro from certain death by turning him into a Demon and tells Tanjiro they must move out of the house to somewhere farther from Muzan. She describes how eventually, she will be outed as a Demon and asks Tanjiro if he would allow Nezuko to stay with them as it was much safer than on the battlefield. He ponders for a bit but Nezuko grabs his hand and knowingly looks at him. Tanjiro smiles and thanks Tamayo for the offer, but he preferred to be by Nezuko's side at all times, never again being separated and thinks of his family. Tamayo accepts his choice, wishing him good luck and bids farewell with Yushiro calling Nezuko a beauty.

Later during that day, Tanjiro's Kasugai Crow tells him to go to the southeast. While requesting for his crow to be more quiet, the two suddenly hear a loud voice coming from a yellow haired boy, seen on the road begging a girl to marry him.

Tanjirou caught in Yahaba's arrows

Tanjiro becomes alarmed and uses Water Breathing: Fourth Form - Striking Tide to avoid crashing into a wall. The arrows start throwing his body in multiple directions and he is forced to use continuous breathing techniques to protect himself, he realizes that he has never used so many attacks before and that he was exhausted.

Tanjiro manages to safely land on his feet with Water Breathing: Sixth Form - Twisting Whirlpool. However, his body has already sustained a substantial amount of damage, leaving him with a broken leg and multiple rib fractures. Tanjiro lays on the ground, wincing from the pain but nonetheless grabs hold of his blade in his mouth and wills himself to move. He proceeds to crawl on the floor towards everyone else, mentally pleading for Tamayo, Yushiro, and Nezuko to be safe.

Nezuko able to kick the ball back

On the other side of the house, Nezuko is currently involved in a match with Susamaru, kicking the temari ball back and forth. After Nezuko smashes the ball into a wall with a final kick, Tamayo and Yushiro comment on her newfound strength and how it wasn't from the medicine she was given. Tamayo, worried about how Nezuko wouldn't be able to keep it up if Susamaru went all out, enters the field.

Susamaru covers her mouth in horror

She begins talking to Susamaru, and provokes her by ridiculing her master, and calling him a coward and manipulator. Susamaru tries to defend her master by claiming he was stronger than anyone else and accidentally utters his name in the process. Tamayo's arms can be seen bleeding as its revealed that she was using her Blood Demon Art: Magical Aroma of Daylight, which acts as a truth serum to try to get Susamaru to mention Muzan. Realizing what she has done, Susamaru covers her mouth in horror and begs for forgiveness. Tamayo bids her farewell as Susamaru succumbs to the curse, arms rupturing through her mouth and stomach while Tanjiro watches in horror.

Chapter 17:- The Arrow pattern Demon

The chapter begins with Yushiro reminding Tanjiro to stay vigilant; there's a possibility they could be up against two of the Twelve Kizuki. Yushiro suggests to Tamayo that they should run while the enemy is distracted with Tanjiro and Nezuko. When she gives him a horrified look, he says he was "just kidding."

Meanwhile, Nezuko has gone after Yahaba and makes him angry by kicking up some dust near him, using his arrows to toss her away. Tanjiro is occupied with Susamaru and is shocked by her regeneration speed.

Nezuko and Tanjirou swap places

From the sidelines, Yushiro tells him to get rid of Yahaba first and he and Tamayo will work with Nezuko to handle Susamaru. Before continuing on to Yahaba, Tanjiro tells Nezuko to be careful and the girl has a flash where she briefly sees Tamayo and Yushiro as her mother and brother which causes her to grow determined to protect them.

Yahaba disbalanced Tanjirou

Facing off with Yahaba, Tanjiro sees the line of interval, but it very quickly disappears when Yahaba tells Tanjiro to stay away from him, using arrows to throw him off balance. The arrows continue to drag him around and he breaks a fall by using Water Breathing: Eighth Form - Waterfall Basin. As everyone continues to fight, Yahaba recognizes Tamayo as the demon who broke free of Muzan.

Nezuko try to kick temari ball

Susamaru throws one of her temari balls at Nezuko, who moves to kick it only for it to detach her leg and causing her to fall. Susamaru gets excited and asks Yahaba if they can bring back all four of their heads but he denies her, saying only Tanjiro and Tamayo are their targets.

Tamayo gives Nezuko some medicine to help the regeneration speed of her leg. Tanjiro begins to decipher the patterns of Yahaba's attacks and manages to save his arm from being twisted by using a technique to twist himself the same way and loosen the arrows. Growing tired from repeatedly using so many techniques, Tanjiro uses a last ditch modified Water Breathing: Second Form - Lateral Water Wheel, to finally behead Yahaba.

Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba (chapter 16 explanation)

Chapter 16:- The playing of handballs

The chapter begins with the female demon giggling as she smashes her balls through the walls of the house.

Demon attack on Tamayo's hideout

She calls to her partner, Yahaba, to tell him of her fascination with Yushiro's ability to conceal the presence of the household. Yahaba assumes that it was the work of Blood Demon Art and questions the reasoning for Tanjiro being there, he then goes on to complain at his accomplice for creating a huge mess. The female demon, whose name is revealed to be Susamaru, tells him to stop being so fussy and be thankful that they have more time to torture Tanjiro and his accomplices.

The scene shifts to Tanjiro being astonished by the amount of damage made on the house just by a single temari ball. Susamaru appears in the clearing after spotting everyone inside, and throws her temari inside the house once again, this time knocking off Yushiro's head. Tanjiro takes action and orders Nezuko to evacuate the injured woman from earlier, he draws his blade and prepares to face Susumaru where she reveals her objective of chasing "the demon slayer with the earrings." He tells Tamayo to run away and hide as he braces himself for Susamaru's attack. The temari comes towards him and he counters the attack with the Water Breathing: Seventh Form - Drop Ripple Thrust Curve. He successfully pierces through the temari however it exerts an unnatural force which hits back at Tanjiro, Meanwhile Yushiro's head slowly starts to regenerate after being knocked off earlier. He angrily tells Tamayo that he had warned her not to get involved with Tanjiro due to the inability to completely conceal his existence, and that his presence could lead Muzan directly to them.

Susamaru's advanced form

Susamaru interrupts his spout to inform them that they should feel honored that their lives will be taken by a member of the Twelve Kizuki, alluding to herself. Within moments, she transforms her body by growing an additional four arms and launches a flurry of attacks with multiple temaris.

Nezuko attacking Yahaba

Tanjiro attempts to deflect the attack but discovers that the temari's are being manipulated to follow him, even after he had cut them. As the temari's continue to blast around the home, Yushiro yells out to avoid the arrows and tells Tanjiro he will "lend [him] [his] sense of sight." Within moments, Yushiro pins a piece of paper onto Tanjiro's forehead that allows him to see the path of the balls as well as Yahaba's location.

Tanjiro points out that Yahaba is hiding in the tree, allowing Nezuko to run after and confront Yahaba. As Susamaru continues her flurry of attacks, Tanjiro is able to promptly defend himself using Water Breathing: Third Form - Flowing Dance to cut down the temari, and get close enough to wound Susamaru. Tanjiro asks Tamayo if these Demons are close to Muzan which she confirms, causing Tanjiro to proudly determine that he will collect their blood no matter what.

Demon Slayer : Kimetsu no Yaiba (chapter 15 explanation)

Chapter 15:- The doctor's opinion

The chapter begins with an enraged udon vendor yelling at Nezuko for not eating his food. She sits there puzzled by his anger until Tanjiro returns and takes the chopsticks from the vendors hands and quickly slurps down the noodles. He thanks and compliments the vendor's cooking before leaving with Nezuko, and the man is left somewhat angry but still flattered by his compliment.

As they walk down the street, Tanjiro apologizes for leaving Nezuko alone but is suddenly stopped by her wariness of a man at the end of the street. Tanjiro calls out the man who turns out to be Yushiro, letting him know that there was no need to wait for him as he could've followed the scent back to the hideout. The man rejects his claim saying that there was no way that they could be tracked and questions Nezuko's presence -since she's a demon- while simultaneously calling her a hag. Tanjiro is insulted by his remark and bickers arguing that his sister is in fact beautiful despite wearing the muzzle.

Tanjirou and Nezuko following Yushiro

They travel behind the man until they arrive back at the hideout, when they enter the building they stumble upon the demon lady treating the injured woman who was attacked by her spouse. Out of curiosity, Tanjiro questions if its hard for the woman to resist wanting to attack the humans that she treats. Before she is able to respond, the man elbows Tanjiro and berates him for asking such a ridiculous question. The woman calls for the man, Yushiro, to stop being violent and formally introduces herself as Tamayo.

Tamayo hideout

She looks back at Tanjiro and answers his question, she explains that she is different from normal demons since she has altered her body and removed Muzan's curse. She goes into detail saying that she doesn't need to feed on human flesh, and only needs to drink small amounts of human blood in order to survive. Her methods involve purchasing blood from poor individuals under the facade that they would be used for medical transfusions, explaining why they do not have a distinct demon scent. Tamayo reveals that Yushiro requires less blood then she does and that he was the only individual that she was able to successfully transform into a demon after experimenting for more than 200 years.

Being stunned by her claims, Tanjiro brazenly asks Tamayo how old she truly is causing Yushiro to hit him in a rage. She yells at him and warns him not to hit Tanjiro again, she then explains that she does not have mal-intentions to increase the number of demons in the world, she simply strives to find a solution to treat the incurable so they can live a little longer. Tanjiro senses her pure intent and decides to seek Tamayo's help in finding a way to turn demons back into humans.

Demon searching for Tanjiro

The scene changes to show the silhouettes of two individuals walking down the street, A demon playing with a temari ball is seen accompanying a second demon with eyes on his hands who begins to track a set footprints on the floor. The hand demon accurately identifies Tanjiro and remarks that they will strive to brutally kill him once they meet.

The scene goes back to Tamayo confirming Tanjiro's suspicions on being able to turn a demon back into a human. He rushes forward to Tamayo eager to know the method but Yushiro pushes him back, preventing him from getting too close to Tamayo. She angrily warns Yushiro for a second time not to hit Tanjiro to which he cheekily responds that he "just threw him. [he] didn't hit him". Tamayo tells Tanjiro that in order to establish a cure she would need to study Nezuko's blood and that he would need to collect samples of demon blood which contain high concentrations of Kibutsuji's blood. She goes on to inform him that Nezuko has a rare and special condition regarding the fact that she had slept for two years to regain her strength and since she hasn't consumed human or animal flesh within that period. Tamayo warns Tanjiro that the the task of collecting demon blood would not be easy and questions if he would still be willing to try. Tanjiro responds by saying "studying blood from many demons to make a medicine, if that's the only way, ill do it."

Demons attack on Tamayo's hideout

The chapter ends with an unexpected interruption of a temari ball, blasting through the wall causing everyone inside to flee for cover.

Angered by his benevolent demeanor, Kazumi belittles Tanjirou asking what he would know about losing something precious since he was just a kid.
